Sherford Road – roundabout removal
Works to remove the mini roundabout at the Nettlehayes and Hartwell Avenue junction are due to begin on Monday 19 October 2026 and are expected to be completed within one week. The mini roundabout was installed earlier this year as part of the approved Sherford Road Traffic Calming scheme. Following feedback from local residents, Plymouth City Council has requested its removal. The Sherford Consortium will fund and carry out the works, as they fall within the Sherford Road Traffic Calming project, which is a planning obligation for the development.
The works will include:
- Removal of the mini roundabout
- Removal and repositioning of associated signs and lights
- Reinstatement of the original junction white lining
- Resurfacing of the junction area.
Hercules Road
Works are ongoing on Hercules Road to allow utilities to cross the road, alongside preparation for the installation of new traffic lights at the Business Park. Temporary traffic lights will remain in place and queues are likely at peak times, so please allow extra time for journeys and use alternative routes where possible.
Estate Improvement Works
Remedial works are continuing across Phase 1B, including the replacement of block paving. These works are expected to continue for the next couple of months. We will continue to post updates to this page about specific road closures due during the month – and thank residents for their continued patience.
Aquilla Drive/Buzzard Way Block Paving Works and Kerbs: work will be commencing on the 7th of October on the above road junction for approx. 2 weeks to install kerbs and block paving required in order to finish off the road surfacing. During this period alternative routes will be put in place to allow for access and egress to other residential streets and properties i.e. Primrose Drive. Please see the location here.
Sycamore Way Road Works 15th – 16th October 2026: Work will be undertaken on Sycamore Way on the 15th – 16th dependant on weather conditions to apply the final wearing course of tarmac. This will entail a road closure on Sycamore Way itself to facilitate the work over the one or two days. Can residents please ensure that vehicles are kept as far away as possible from the junction while the work is carried out.
Sherford Road Works Zenith Way, Aurora Drive, Beaufort Place, Sirocco Lane, Chinook Avenue. Work will commence on the 19th of Oct 26 for approx. 3-4 weeks on the above residential roads to raise ironwork and effect any repairs necessary in preparation of application of the final wearing course. Diversions will be in place but resident access maintained. Please see the plan here.
Service Connections
Phase 3a/b Parcel 1 & 2 Service Connections: work will be undertaken on the above 2 areas between the 23rd & 28th of October to allow for service connections to be undertaken to properties from one side of the road to the other (please see the plan here). The work will consist of a Vacuum Excavator preparing the connection point so that the services can be brought across the road onto the other side ready for connection on the 28th or possibly before (weather permitting). Some access to properties may be restricted at times during this process, however any access and egress will be maintained as much as possible. Final re-application of tarmac to the affected areas is planned in to be completed by the 30th.
Stratus Lane w/c 13th October 2026. Service connections work will commence on the week commencing 12th October which will involve Vacuum Excavator work (14th) and service connections for gas and electric which will be done on the 19th & 20th October. This will mean that access to properties will be restricted at times during this period. Can residents please ensure that vehicles are kept as far away as possible/alternatively parked from the work. Diversions will be put in place as each section is being completed.
Archaeology Sites: Strawberry Lane and Aquila Drive
Residents may have noticed work taking place on the plot at the corner of Strawberry Lane and Aquila Drive. This activity is in line with the plans for this area. Archaeological investigations at Sherford’s Ice Age megafauna site and Neolithic site, both close to this location, have now been completed, and the remains have been removed for analysis and safeguarding. As announced at the time of each discovery, the plan has always been to secure these areas and turn the land above them into public open space. That remains the case, and no construction is planned on top of either site. More information about the plans for the public open space by Aquila Drive and the new play area will be shared over the coming weeks.
Site Maintenance and Landscaping Update
Routine landscape maintenance has continued across all phases of the site. In Phase 1.1, a new path has been installed along with soft landscaping, and minor maintenance repairs have been carried out to the slide and swing in the play park. In Phase 2D, new screening fencing has been installed and the area around the new bus stop has been finished with gravel. In Phase 3, tree planting pits continue to be installed and further fencing has been put up ahead of new homes being occupied. At the Business Park, clearance work is continuing to allow electricity network works to take place.
Country Park Footpaths
YGS Landscapes – our landscaping team – has started work on new footpaths in the Country Park, in the bridleway area where avenue trees and hundreds of young trees were recently planted. One path will run from the gated entrances through to the viewing point, and a second will link the lower field to the bridleway. While on site, the team will also improve the surface of the existing bridleway path to make it more suitable for horses. Work areas will be barriered off, so while access will not be closed, it may be limited in places. Progress will depend on the weather, so there may be times when work is paused.
